Middle School Band
I hope you have had a great start to the new school year! This letter is to inform
you of the upcoming South Central District Middle School Honor Band that will be
held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Andover Central High School. Our
clinician this is year is Dr. Timothy Shade, Director of Bands at Wichita State
University. Dr. Shade will be a wonderful clinician that will provide our students
with a valuable experience.
The band selection process will be similar to previous years:

- Each Director May Recommend Up To Eight Students.
- Only students who are in 7th or 8th Grade will be accepted.
- Recommendations Are Submitted On-Line
- Please Include Specific Comments Regarding Each Submission. (These comments will aid in the selection of students.)
- All entries are to be submitted digitally no later than Sunday, September 17.
- Percussion recordings should postmarked no later than Monday, September 18.
The band size is limited to approximately 120 students, so please understand
that not every student submitted will be selected. We must strive to have a
balanced instrumentation in this band. The final instrumentation and music will be
emailed out by Monday, September 25. You may also refer to the district website
for final instrumentation.
Percussionists will once again need to audition, and can submit auditions by mail
or email. The audition material is available for you to download and print from the
district website. Percussionists must audition on two of the three percussion
instruments (snare, timpani, and mallets). Please mail your tapes/CDs to my
address. Remember, tapes/CDs must be postmarked by Monday, September 18!
Finally, entry fees are $10 per student and are due once you are notified of the
final instrumentation. The entry fee includes lunch for the students. In addition, all
directors who have students participating in the honor band must be on site to
assist with the middle school honor band or assist with high school auditions.
Districts who do not have directors on site to assist and supervise students will
be charged $100.
