Emily Rossin
Emily Rossin is an Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Kansas where she earned her Ph.D., MME, and BME. There, she teaches courses in instrumental pedagogy, conducting and rehearsal techniques, and human learning and development. She also advises student research and teaches graduate classes on the psychology of music ensembles. Prior to joining the KU faculty, Dr. Rossin was a band and orchestra teacher in the Blue Valley School District in Overland Park, Kansas.
As a scholar, Dr. Rossin studies, conducts, and shares research on the psychology of music ensembles. Her work synthesizes research on groups both in and outside the music domain. She aims to use her work to enhance the musicianship and experiences of ensemble musicians. Dr. Rossin regularly presents her work at conferences around the world. She is published in the Journal for Research in Music Education and Music and Science.
As a music educator, Dr. Rossin regularly serves as a clinician, conductor, and adjudicator of secondary bands. At KU, she hosts the Prairie Winds Symposium, an annual professional learning day for band directors that can be applied toward professional licensure requirements or a graduate degree in music education. She is passionate about her philanthropic work with the nonprofit Band of Angels, an organization that provides instruments and scholarships to students who otherwise would not be able to afford an education in music. She plays clarinet in the Crossroads Wind Symphony.
